Smash Cake Magazine is the product that started it all for us. The title was inspired by the founding editor’s experience of watching her firstborn dive in, enjoy, and decimate a cake just for fun, with the crowd cheering him on. No one was worried about keeping his shirt clean, preserving the cake for later, or vaccuming crumbs. Every witness was in the present, experiencing and watching it play out together. Nothing less, nothing more.
Shouldn’t life be more like that?
Sure, it’s not always rosy. It’s frequently hard. Grueling, even. But those true, isolated moments are what makes up a life, not the checkmarks on the calendar or the milestone days alone. It’s the specific little things we don’t talk about that matter.
With that in mind, we bring you Smash Cake Magazine, a twice-yearly literary journal devoted to sincerity, passion, and–for better or worse–collected moments.
